San Francisco General Hospital, San Francisco, CA
Ackerley-LDA is providing design and engineering services for the replacement of all 13 elevators in the 8-story main hospital building. The elevators have reached the end of their useful life expectancy and are being fully renovated with new control systems and user controls in the cab and each elevator lobby. While most of the work for this project will be away from public view the cabs and lobbies will receive new control panels, safety features, and brought into full compliance with current accessibility codes.
We conceived a four-phase approach such that the construction of the elevator modernization would not disrupt the vital services of the hospital. Elevators will be removed from service selectively, modernized, and then brought back into service before the next elevators are worked on. All areas of the hospital will remain fully operational and accessible during construction.
Machine room upgrades include the associated electrical work for the new elevator controllers and new mechancial systems to keep the equipment cool during hot weather. All of these systems are designed to last for the remainder of the buildings useful lifespan and provide efficient and reliable service to Hospital's patients and staff.
